It all began one cold winter’s morning in February this year. A conversation that led to a collaboration; where Science meets Art… My challenge was to illustrate the research being done in a 100 mile stretch coastal waters in the South East of the UK. Huge amounts of data is being collected to better understand the impact of pollutants in the sea has on the growth and reproduction of Kelp… these under water forests that are an important carbon capture and provide huge biodiversity hotspots for over 1000 marine species. The three main Kelp species provided the form and colours, the data the textures…the concept of the columns of water being studied never far from my mind; The Kelp Collection was born in mid July 2025. This is a selection of some of them, there are more in process.
